WELCOME TO THE RELEASE POINT SCHOOL OF FASTPITCH SOFTBALL WEBSITE. MY NAME IS ROGER BOLEY AND I WORK WITH A LOT OF KIDS TO TRY AND IMPROVE THIER SOFTBALL PLAYING SKILLS. WHILE YOU'RE HERE I'D LIKE TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MYSELF.

I PLAYED FASTPITCH IN THE NAVY AS A OUTFIELDER AND PITCHER. AFTER THE NAVY, I COACHED MANY DIFFERENT TEAMS AT ALL LEVELS FOR 30 YEARS. THE LAST 4 YEARS, I COACHED TRAVEL TEAMS THAT PLAYED IN COMPETITIVE TOURNAMENTS IN N.C., VA., AND S.C. MY GOAL IS TO TRY TO TEACH EVERY PLAYER I WORK WITH TO BE A COMPLETE PLAYER. TO BE ABLE TO HIT, FIELD AND PLAY DIFFERENT POSISTIONS.

I BELIEVE GOD GAVE ME A GIFT WHEN I PLAYED THE GAME OF FASTPITCH AND IT WAS MEANT FOR ME TO PASS SOME OF THIS KNOWLEDGE ON TO OTHERS. HITTING CHANGE-UPS

I have a lot of girls who are playing on travel teams that are having trouble hitting the change of speed pitches that good pitchers throw when they have the batters at their mercy . Most want to know how to determine the speed of the ball when it leaves the pitchers hand. One of the best things is to watch the rotation of the ball , if you can pick up the stitches of the ball and they are visible from the time it leaves the pitchers hand till you make bat contact, this means the ball is at a slower speed and it is not spinning as fast when the ball is coming at a greater speed. So as soon as you pickup the ball when it leaves the pitchers hand and the stitches are really spinning fast and you can not pick then up as well , this means that the speed of the ball is coming at you faster than when the stitches are more visible. So learn to lock on the ball when it leaves the pitchers hand to determine the speed . Remember when it is slow the air is letting it float and the stitches are more visible and when it is fast the air is pushing it and it is spinning and the stitches are not as visible.
